History is so long and full of interesting stuff that people like this tend to be glazed over, since we already have Amelia Airheart, who was famous for similar reasons, but was already a celebrity when she flew and has the tragedy of her disappearance attached to her. Simple achievement just can't stand up to that. I think I have heard of her, though.

I think sexism has something to do with it.

Amelia Earhart forms a tragic warning tale that reinforces the patriarchy. It says, "Women, don't do adventurous things. You'll die."

Whereas if Jerrie Mock was more widely known, the story would be, "Yeah, you can fly around the world AND be a grandmother," which would weaken gender roles and chip away at the patriarchy.

Stories that run counter the patriarchy are suppressed.
